Tank, Lines and Drain Field

Septic Tank Service in St. Petersburg, FL

Most of the city is on sewer, but plenty of older and outlying properties are not. For those homes we inspect the tank, clear the lines and repair what has failed.

Not everyone is on sewer

Septic tank service in St. Petersburg, FL for the homes that still need it

Most St. Pete homes drain to the municipal sewer, so septic can come as a surprise to new owners. Some older and outlying properties still run their own systems, and those need the same care as septic anywhere else in Pinellas County. Our septic tank service in St. Petersburg, FL is built around that smaller group of homes.

A tank separates solids from wastewater, and the drain field returns the liquid to the soil. If solids are allowed to build up, they escape into the field and clog it, and a field repair is a far larger job than routine pumping.

Older St. Pete systems often have concrete tanks, aging baffles and clay lines running from the house to the tank. We inspect all three, because a failed baffle or a broken inlet line can mimic a full tank. Pumping a tank that was never the problem only delays the real fix.

What we do

Septic services we provide

  • Tank location

Finding a buried tank and lids, often the first step in an older property with no records.

  • Pumping coordination

Arranging pumping so solids are removed before they reach the drain field.

  • Baffle and filter inspection

Inlet and outlet baffles, lids and filters checked and reported in plain language.

  • Line clearing

Blocked lines between the house and tank cleared without disturbing the tank itself.

  • Camera inspection

Lines to the tank recorded to find cracks, roots and sags, using our St. Petersburg sewer camera service.

  • Component repair

Broken lines, baffles, lids and risers repaired or replaced.

How often should the tank be pumped?

It depends mainly on tank size and how many people live in the home. After an inspection we give you a pumping schedule based on your household, not a generic number. Call (941) 541-7473 for a free phone estimate, or read more on our septic tank services page.

St. Petersburg questions

Septic Tank Service in St. Petersburg: common questions

How can I tell if a St. Pete house is on septic or sewer?

Start with the utility bill: no sewer charge often means septic. Property records, the seller's disclosure and a home inspection report may also mention it. In the yard, look for a concrete lid or riser. If you are still unsure, we can locate the line from the house and follow it to its destination.

What does a failed baffle do?

Baffles keep floating scum and settled solids inside the tank. When the outlet baffle breaks or falls away, those solids flow straight into the drain field and start clogging the soil. It is a relatively small repair that protects the most expensive part of the system, which is why we check baffles on every inspection.

Why do drains slow down even after the tank was pumped?

Because the tank may not have been the problem. A blocked or broken line between the house and the tank, a failed inlet baffle or a saturated drain field all cause slow drains. We camera the line and inspect the baffles to pin down which one it is before recommending anything else.
