Fix it or replace it
How pipe repair services decide between a patch and a repipe
A single leak is a repair. A pattern of leaks is the pipe telling you something.
Supply pipes carry water under pressure every hour of the day, and drain pipes carry waste, heat and chemicals. Both wear out. The question on every call is whether the failure is isolated, like a fitting that let go or a section damaged during other work, or whether the pipe material itself is reaching the end of its life.
Our pipe repair services start by identifying the material, looking at the failed section and checking nearby pipe for the same corrosion, thinning or brittleness. If the rest of the line is healthy, a section repair is the sensible and economical fix. If we find the same wear throughout, we say so plainly and explain what repiping would involve, so you can decide on your own timeline.
Homes across Manatee, Sarasota and Pinellas counties span every era of plumbing, from galvanized steel and cast iron to copper, polybutylene, CPVC and PEX. Each ages differently, and hard water and humidity speed some of them along.

Know your pipes
Common pipe materials and how they fail
Galvanized steel
Rusts from the inside, narrowing the pipe until pressure drops and the water runs brown. Leaks often appear at threaded joints.
Copper
Durable, but prone to pinhole leaks as it ages, especially where water chemistry or high velocity wears the inside wall.
Polybutylene
Gray plastic supply pipe used in many homes of the 1980s and early 1990s. It can become brittle and fail without warning.
CPVC
Common in newer homes. It can turn brittle with age and heat, so fittings sometimes crack when disturbed during repairs.
Cast iron drains
Corrodes and scales internally, eventually cracking along the bottom of the pipe where waste water sits.
PEX
Flexible modern supply pipe that resists scale and corrosion. It is a common choice for repipes and repairs today.
Warning signs
Signs your pipes need repair or replacement
- More than one pinhole leak in the past couple of years
- Brown or rusty water when a tap is first opened
- Water pressure dropping throughout the house
- Green or white crusty buildup on exposed copper fittings
- Banging or rattling pipes when fixtures shut off
- Damp spots on walls or ceilings along a pipe run
- A water bill that rises with no change in use
The big decision
Section repair vs. whole-home repipe
Neither is always right. The condition of the pipe you cannot see makes the call.
Section repair
- Best for an isolated leak or damaged fitting
- Makes sense when surrounding pipe is in good condition
- Lower cost now and minimal disruption
- Can be the right short-term step while you plan a repipe
Whole-home repipe
- Best when leaks keep appearing in different places
- Recommended for polybutylene and badly corroded galvanized lines
- Restores pressure and water quality throughout the house
- Can be routed through attics and walls to avoid an aging slab line
Our process
How we handle a pipe repair
Stop and locate
We shut off the affected line and, for hidden leaks, use non-invasive leak locating to find the exact spot.
Assess the material
We identify the pipe type and check surrounding sections so the recommendation fits the whole system, not just one leak.
Price the options
You get the repair cost, and the repipe cost if it applies, before work begins.
Repair and pressure test
The section or system is replaced, tested under pressure and checked for leaks before walls are closed.
What affects the cost of pipe repair and repiping
For a repair, the main factors are where the pipe is (exposed, inside a wall, above a ceiling or under a slab), the material and how much needs replacing. For a repipe, the size of the home, the number of bathrooms and fixtures, how the new lines can be routed and the amount of drywall access all play a part. You get a free phone estimate and an upfront price to approve before work begins. Financing is available for qualifying larger jobs like repiping.
Prevention
Helping your pipes last longer
High water pressure strains every joint and fixture, so a pressure check is worth doing if pipes bang or faucets spray hard. Insulating exposed lines in garages and attics, fixing small leaks promptly and knowing where your main shutoff is all limit damage when something does fail.
Our Redemption Family Plan, at $175 per year, includes an annual plumbing inspection, priority scheduling and repair discounts, which makes it easy to keep an eye on aging pipe. If the problem is a sewer or drain line outside, trenchless pipe repair can often replace it without trenching the yard.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Why does my copper pipe keep getting pinhole leaks?
Pinholes usually form when the inside wall of copper pipe slowly erodes or corrodes, which can be driven by water chemistry, high water velocity or age. Once one appears, others often follow in the same line. A single pinhole can be repaired, but repeated ones are a strong sign that repiping that section, or the house, will cost less over time.
How do I tell what kind of pipes my home has?
Look where pipes are exposed: at the water heater, under sinks, in the garage or near the main shutoff. Gray flexible plastic is often polybutylene, gray metal with threaded joints is galvanized, reddish metal is copper, cream or tan plastic is usually CPVC, and red, blue or white flexible tubing is typically PEX. We can confirm it during any visit.
Does a repipe mean tearing out all my walls?
No. A repipe is planned to reach fixtures through the attic, existing chases and small, targeted wall openings rather than removing whole walls. The openings are patched afterward. Many homes stay livable during the work, with water restored at the end of each day where the layout allows.
What if the leaking pipe is under my concrete slab?
A leak under the slab can be repaired by opening the floor at the leak, or bypassed by rerouting the line overhead through the attic and walls. The right choice depends on the pipe's condition and where the leak is. Our slab leak repair page explains the options in detail.
