Behind the machine
Dishwasher installation in Davenport, FL starts under the sink
Most dishwasher trouble is not inside the appliance. It is in the three connections behind it.
A dishwasher needs a supply line, a drain and power, and the first two are plumbing. When we handle dishwasher installation in Davenport, FL, we check the shut-off valve, fit a new supply line and route the drain hose with a proper high loop or air gap, so dirty sink water cannot run back into the clean dishes.
That last detail is the one we see skipped most. Builder-installed dishwashers in some newer Davenport homes are missing the high loop entirely, or are connected to cheap plastic supply stops that crack or seize after a few years. In a home that runs the dishwasher every day of the rental season, those shortcuts show up quickly as smells, standing water or a slow leak into the cabinet floor.
If the problem extends beyond the dishwasher to the sink, disposal or drain, our Davenport kitchen plumbing page covers the rest of the room.

Install checklist
A quick hookup versus a proper installation
Both get water into the machine. Only one keeps it working and the cabinet dry for years.
Corner-cutting hookup
- Old supply line reused, even when it is kinked or corroded
- Drain hose laid flat, with no high loop or air gap
- Plastic shut-off left in place
- Machine not leveled or secured to the counter
How we install
- New braided supply line and a quarter-turn shut-off
- High loop or air gap set correctly before the disposal or tailpiece
- Every connection run and checked for leaks
- Unit leveled and anchored so it does not tip or rattle

Symptoms

- A sewer or sour smell when the door is opened
- The sink gurgles or backs up when the dishwasher drains

Davenport questions
Dishwasher Installation & Plumbing in Davenport: common questions
What is a dishwasher high loop and does mine have one?
It is the drain hose looped up and fastened as high as possible under the counter before it connects to the disposal or sink tailpiece. It stops dirty sink water from flowing back into the dishwasher. Look under the sink: if the hose runs flat along the cabinet floor, there is probably no loop, and we can add one quickly.
Why is dirty water left in the bottom of my dishwasher?
Usually the drain path is restricted. Common causes are a kinked hose, a clogged air gap, a new disposal with its knockout plug still in place or a partly blocked sink drain. Clearing the filter inside the machine is worth trying first. If water remains, the fault is in the plumbing behind it.
Should the shut-off valve be replaced when a new dishwasher goes in?
Often, yes. An older valve may not close fully or may start leaking once it is disturbed. Swapping it for a quarter-turn valve during installation costs little and means the dishwasher can be isolated easily the next time it needs service.
