Bathroom plumbing
Shower and tub plumbing in Tarpon Springs, FL bathrooms
Every shower and tub plumbing call in Tarpon Springs, FL starts with one question: is the problem in the valve, in the pipe feeding it or in the drain below? The answer decides whether you need a cartridge, a new valve body or a cleared line, and it keeps you from paying for the wrong fix.
Bathrooms in the older homes around Greektown and toward the Anclote River add a twist. Many still have galvanized supply behind the tile and an original tub drain and overflow. When the valve wears out, replacing just the cartridge restores the drip-free shut-off but not the pressure that the rusted pipe has been choking for years.

Common fixes
Shower and bathtub problems we solve
Dripping spouts and heads
Worn cartridges, stems and seals replaced with the correct parts for your valve brand.
Temperature swings
Pressure-balancing and thermostatic valves rebuilt or installed so a flush elsewhere does not scald you.
Slow tub drains
Hair and soap cleared from the drain and trap, and worn stoppers and overflows replaced.
Hidden leaks
Valve, pan and drain leaks located before any tile is removed.
New tubs and showers
Tubs, shower bases and valves set to code so tile and glass go in over sound plumbing.
Walk-in conversions
Tub-to-shower conversions with drains and valves placed where the new layout needs them.
Remodel plumbing
Planning a bathroom remodel in an older home
The wall will only be open once. Use it.
Inspect behind the tile
Once the wall is open, we check the supply, the drain and the venting before anything new is set.
Replace tired pipe
Galvanized supply and old drain sections are swapped while access is easy, rather than later through new tile.
Rough in to code
Valve height, drain location and blocking are set for the fixtures you have chosen.
Test before tile
Supply and drain are pressure and flow tested so nothing is hidden behind the finish that will fail.
Warning signs
Signs your shower or tub needs a plumber
- A stain or soft spot on the ceiling below the bathroom
- Loose or cracked tiles around the tub or valve
- Water that turns hot or cold when another fixture runs
- A tub that drains slowly even after cleaning
- A spout or head that drips long after shut-off
- Weak pressure at the shower only

Tarpon Springs questions
Shower and Tub Plumbing in Tarpon Springs: common questions
Why does my shower go cold when someone flushes?
The toilet briefly pulls cold water from the same supply, and an older valve cannot balance the drop, so the mix shifts. Pressure-balancing or thermostatic valves correct for this. Narrowed galvanized supply makes it worse because there is less flow to share. Replacing the valve, and the old pipe if needed, usually solves it.
Can a shower valve be fixed without breaking tile?
Usually. Most cartridges and many valve bodies can be serviced through the trim opening or an access panel behind the wall. We only open tile when there is no other way to reach a leak or replace a failed valve body, and we explain why first.
Should I replace old pipe behind the wall during a bathroom remodel?
In an older Tarpon Springs home, almost always. If the supply is galvanized or the drain is original, the remodel is the cheapest moment to replace them. Leaving them means a future leak could require removing brand-new tile. If you suspect a leak right now, our Tarpon Springs leak detection service can confirm it.
Can you install a walk-in shower in place of my tub?
Yes. We move or adapt the drain and valve to suit the new shower, rough in to code and test everything before your tile setter starts. The plumbing side typically takes less time than the finish work. You get a firm price for the plumbing portion before demolition begins.
