Indoor & Outdoor Showers

Shower and Tub Plumbing in Holmes Beach, FL

Dripping valves, temperature swings, slow tub drains and corroded outdoor showers repaired before a hidden leak finds its way into the wall.

Valves and drains

Shower and tub plumbing in Holmes Beach, FL, inside and out

Many shower problems are really valve problems, and on the island, many of those valves are outdoors in the salt air.

Most calls for shower and tub plumbing in Holmes Beach, FL start with a drip that will not stop, a temperature that jumps when someone uses another tap, or a tub that drains too slowly. A worn cartridge causes the first two. Hair, soap and beach sand usually cause the third.

What sets Holmes Beach apart is the outdoor shower. Many canal-front homes from the 1960s and 1970s have had one added, and they are popular with rental guests coming back from the beach. Exposed valves, supply lines and fittings take a beating from salt air, and we regularly rebuild outdoor shower valves with coastal-grade parts.

Indoors, a failed valve body can leak inside the wall for a long time before a stain appears. If tile is soft, grout keeps cracking or the wall behind the shower feels damp, have it checked before the damage spreads.

Two kinds of shower

Outdoor vs indoor showers: what usually goes wrong

Outdoor beach showers

  • Valves and handles seize or pit from salt exposure
  • Exposed supply lines and fittings corrode and drip
  • Drains fill with sand and drain slowly
  • On empty homes, a leak can run unnoticed for weeks

Indoor showers and tubs

  • Worn cartridges cause drips and temperature swings
  • Valve bodies or pans leak inside the wall
  • Tub overflows and drain shoes leak under the floor
  • Hair and soap slow the trap until it stops

What we fix

Shower and bathtub services

  • Valve repair and replacement

Cartridges rebuilt or valves replaced to stop drips and steady the temperature, including pressure-balancing valves for rentals.

  • Outdoor shower rebuilds

Seized valves, corroded lines and sand-clogged drains restored with parts suited to coastal exposure.

  • Drain clearing

Slow tub and shower drains cleared and trap issues corrected so water leaves at full speed.

  • Hidden leak location

Valve, pan and drain leaks traced before anyone starts pulling tile.

  • Remodels and conversions

New tubs, shower bases and tub-to-shower conversions roughed in to code so tile goes over plumbing you can trust.

Holmes Beach questions

Shower and Tub Plumbing in Holmes Beach: common questions

Can an outdoor shower valve be rebuilt, or does it need replacing?

If the body is sound, a rebuild with a new cartridge, seals and handle is often enough. If the valve body is pitted, cracked or seized solid, replacement with a corrosion-resistant valve is better value. We look at the exposed supply lines and drain at the same time.

Why does my shower temperature jump when someone flushes a toilet?

The toilet briefly draws cold water, and an older valve cannot compensate, so the mix runs hot. A pressure-balancing valve or a new cartridge corrects it. In rentals, where guests are unfamiliar with the house, it is a worthwhile safety upgrade.

Can a leaking shower valve be fixed without removing the tile?

In many cases, yes. Most valves can be serviced through the trim opening or an access panel from the other side of the wall. We only open tile when there is no other way to reach the problem. Our shower and bathtub plumbing service page explains the options.

What should I do if an outdoor shower will not shut off?

Close the shut-off valve for that line if there is one, or the main shut-off for the house, then call (941) 541-7473. If water has been running into the ground for a while, a leak check for the Holmes Beach home can confirm nothing else is affected.
