Something is wedged between the plate and the ring, or the motor has seized. Turn the power off first; a jam can often be freed from below with the correct tool.
Nothing at all
The reset button on the bottom may have tripped, or the switch, outlet or breaker has failed. If a reset does not help, the motor may be finished.
Leaking from the top
The sink flange has lost its seal. This is usually a repair, not a replacement.
Leaking from the side
A loose dishwasher inlet or drain connection, both of which we can tighten or renew.
Leaking from the bottom
The internal seal or housing has failed. At this point the unit needs replacing.
Slow draining
Ground waste has packed the trap or the branch line behind the cabinet. Clearing that line is the fix.

Why does my disposal hum but not spin?
Usually a hard object or packed waste has jammed the grinding plate. Switch off power at the wall or breaker, then use the hex key socket on the bottom of most units to turn the plate back and forth. Press the reset button and try again. If it still hums, the motor bearings may have seized and replacement is likely.
Can I use a garbage disposal with a septic tank?
Most Palm Harbor homes are on sewer, but some older and outlying properties use septic. A disposal adds food solids to the tank, which means it fills faster and needs pumping more often. We do not recommend it. Caustic cleaners can damage the seals inside the unit and sit in the trap without reaching the real blockage. If the sink is draining slowly, the problem is usually in the trap or branch line, which needs mechanical clearing rather than chemicals.
