Shower and tub plumbing in Lutz: valve, supply or drain?
Almost every shower complaint traces back to one of three places. Finding the right one first saves tile, time and money.
Most shower and tub plumbing in Lutz comes down to the valve hidden behind the handle. A worn cartridge causes dripping and sudden temperature swings, and a failed valve body can leak into the wall cavity where nobody sees it until tile loosens or the drywall next door stains.
Water quality plays a part too. Homes on private wells and on county water from the aquifer both see mineral buildup in cartridges and shower heads, which slowly chokes flow and wears seals. In older homes on Lutz acreage lots, original valves may be decades old and hard to source parts for.
We open the trim, check the cartridge and the pressure balance, and tell you whether a rebuild will last or a new valve is the better investment. Our shower and bathtub service overview explains the common valve types.

Lutz questions
Shower & Tub Plumbing in Lutz: common questions
Why does my shower go cold when someone flushes a toilet?
When the toilet refills, it pulls cold water away from the shower and the balance shifts toward hot, or the reverse. A working pressure-balancing valve corrects for that automatically. If yours no longer does, the cartridge is likely worn or the valve is an older type without that feature. Replacing the cartridge or upgrading the valve solves it.
Is a tub-to-shower conversion a big plumbing job?
It depends on the layout. The drain usually needs to move or change size, and the valve often has to be raised and replaced. On a slab foundation, moving the drain means cutting concrete. We look at your bathroom and explain exactly what plumbing changes are involved before you finalize the design.
Why is pressure low at my shower but fine at the sink?
That points to the shower itself: a clogged head, a scaled cartridge or a flow restrictor. Well water and hard water make this especially common. Soaking or replacing the head is the first step. If that does not help, the valve cartridge is next on the list, which we can check quickly. If every fixture in the house is weak, the cause is more likely the well pressure tank or the main supply, and we test those too.
